Talk Tuesday - Should we teach our children about Santa Claus?

If you don't know by now Santa isn't real, but to kids he is the greats person on earth this time of the year. As Christians should we teach our children about Santa Claus? I spoke to one Christian father and he said that he was not teaching his kids about Santa. He did not even go to the Santa parade. If you have kids did you tell them about Santa? If you don't have kids are you going to tell them about Santa? What are you going to teach your kids about Christmas?

We would love to hear from you. To express your views click on the comments link below.

Talk Tuesday - Are you naughty or nice?

What if God was like Santa Claus? If you were good, He would bless you. If you were not, He would not.

I am not sure if that is the picture of God you have. You might be going through something now and want to know," what did I do to God?" Maybe you are in a financial crunch and you are asking God, "Why me?" God does not treat us like Santa. He loves us unconditionally. No matter what we have done in our lives, He still loves us.

So this Christmas if you are afraid to meet with God, don't be afraid. Ask God for His forgiveness and tell Him you want a relationship with Him. It is as simple as that. Then find a Bible believing Church to go to. Hey, get involved in a bible study even.

It's Christmas.... so think about Christ.

Testimony Thursday - What are you thankful for this Christmas?

I got this suggestion from one of the BGOers. It is Christmas time, so let's share what we are thankful for.

I am thankful for my wife and all our family. God has really given me a treasure in my wife. She is the most loving and giving person. She is also cute.

Drop us a small note and tell us what you are thankful for this Christmas.

Talk Tuesday - Is Santa in the Bible?

When we think about Christmas the first thing that comes to mind is Santa Claus-shopping malls full of people and presents under the Christmas tree. A Season full of joy and hope. But the last time I read my bible there was no Santa Claus there.

We all know that Jesus is the reason we celebrate the season. God came to earth so that we could have a relationship with Him. He was born in a manger and died on a cross, so that we could experience new life in Him.

So, what does Christmas mean to you? Is it just another religious Holiday? A time to spend with family and friends? Tell us what Christmas means to you by clicking on the comments link below. Don't be afraid. Every comment has value here at Bible Group Online. You can even post a comment under anonymous.

Talk Tuesday-Why Marriage?

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." Ecclesiastes 4:12

What is the purpose of marriage? What are the implications of marriage for the kingdom of God? How do we see our lives in terms of the Great Commission spoken of in Matthew 28:19
The apostle Paul reminds us that this world is not our home, we are pilgrims on a journey. How can marriage help us navigate our way on this journey of life? Are there powers and principalities in the spiritual realm (Ephesians 6:12) that seek to attack marriage? Why?

We are looking for some perspectives from both singles and marrieds. Please share your thoughts and ideas by clicking on the comments link below.

Look at how God can use anybody. Listen to the story of this little boy and how he touched many lives by his call to a Christian Station.

Sermon Sunday

This Sunday Sermon was about idols. The Pastor used a great example to illustrate his point. Suppose you are going to meet the best chef in the world and he/she was going to make you your favorite meal. You get in your car and on your way you eat some old popcorn you found in the car. You keep on going and find some old chips in the backseat, you eat that. When you finally get there you are full because you ate all the junk and you no longer have an appetite for the good meal, Godly blessings.

What's the idol in your life that is preventing you from experiencing the fullness of God's blessing? Is it a statue, a person or a job? It's time to remove that idol and worship God alone.

How was your Sunday at church? Please share it with us by clicking on the comments link below.

Talk Tuesday – Wives submit to your husbands

Do you believe everything in the bible? Are we supposed to do everything the bible says? How about this verse Ephesians 5:22:

“Wives submit to your husbands as to the Lord.”

What does the modern woman think about this verse? We would like to hear what you think. If you are single, are you worried about how your husband will treat you? If you are married, how has this verse played out in your marriage?

Before you flood our inbox with emails remember the bible also says,

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her” Ephesians 5:25

Husbands should be willing to sacrifice everything for his wife, as Christ did for us. No wife should worry about submitting to a husband like that.

Scripture Saturday - Psalm 34:1-4

I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.

My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.

Whatever you are going through, trust God. Praise Him through the storm. He will calm your fears. He will not leave you or forsake you. This scripture really help me this week. I hope it encourages you as well.

Talk Tuesday-Obedience and Worship

"When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his fellow Israelites. He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian. Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not." Acts 7: 23-25

"After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai. When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to look more closely, he heard the Lord's voice: ' I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaacc and Jacob.' Moses trembled with fear " Acts 7:30-32

"I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt." Acts 7:34

What is worship? Is it songs of praise, words of gratitude, deeds of service? As I am reading the book of Acts, it strikes me that worship is obedience. If we obey God's commands and seek His face for His will, true worship begins. As we surrender our will to Him, as Moses did, we will see His perfect plan for our lives. I have found that suffering brings surrender. The reality that I am limited but God is not becomes clear in the midst of suffering. Moses preempted God, he did not ask God before attempting to be his people's deliverer. What happened in those 40 years when he went to Midian? What happens in our "40 years of Midian"? When our lives take a detour and we endure a time of testing, God is refining our hearts. He is teaching us about worship. He is preparing our hearts for obedience. When we surrender our wills, we are able to obey. I am learning this. God led Moses out to be Israel's great deliverer-eventually. Not in Moses' time but in God's time. We need faith in God first. Worship then becomes an expression of that faith. The Prophet Samuel says,

But Samuel replied:
"Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD ?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams." 1 Samuel 15:22

What is true worship to you? Can we worship God is Spirit and in Truth without walkign in obedience? We want to hear from you. Please click on the comments link below to share your thoughts.

Testimony Thursday - Tell Your Story

How about sharing how you came to Christ? Was it at church? Did a friend share the gospel with you? Testimonies are a great encouragement to everyone. So tell us your story by clicking on the comments link below.

Here is my Testimony of how I came to Christ:

I grew up going to church. I would say that I was a good person. I was kind to people and stayed out of trouble. When I went to university I did a lot of psychology and philosophy courses and concluded that God was not real. I partied hard, drank hard and lived the university life. I stopped going to church and started believing in myself. Oprah was my friend and I started reading all the books that she recommended.

One day while I was having a conversation with one of my friends about God, he said that he read the whole Koran. I thought, "I came from a Christian background and I never read the Bible." So I began to think about the things of God. While cleaning up my art room I came across a gift from my long lost soul mate and best friend. It was the Footprints poster. I thought about her and decided to see if she was still alive. You see she left the party scene and became a Born Again Christian. I did not hear from her for about three years. I called the old number but she moved. I said, “oh well…maybe it was not meant to be,” only to get a call a few weeks later from her. There is a God ;)

So we went to coffee and it was like old times but the only problem was all she could talk about was Jesus, and He was the furthest from my mind. Every time she said the Name Jesus there was a jab in my heart. Needless to say I did not call her back for a few weeks.

I did finally call her back and we began hanging out together. As I got closer to her, I wanted what she had, that Joy from Jesus. So I began to read my bible and go to church. Then a Christian play came to her church and at the end there was an alter call. The first thing that popped into my mind was ,”you see how they are trying to scare people into becoming Christians.” But at the end of the alter call there was a burning in my heart. I came home that night and wondered what was that feeling in my soul. I began to read my bible more and seek Him. I finally gave my life to Jesus a few weeks later.

All I can say is, “God is good.” He is real and there is no one that can love you like Him. If you are feeling lost and alone, TRY JESUS. You won’t be disappointed. He is the best thing that has happened to me.

Oh, about that girl, I married her. She is the second best thing that has happen to me.

Talk Tuesday-Your First Love

Do you remember what it is like to fall in love? The sight of the other person incites feelings of ardour and promise. Life seems so much brighter, the future full of hope? The little things previously unnoticeable now calling to attention it's beauty?

As we grow in the knowledge of who that other person truly is, our love begins to mature into a deep passion that seems to somehow anchor our souls-even in the midst of life's storms. When we enter into marriage, all is unmasked. Yet, in the safety of that covenant, we are humbled as we learn the freedom and joy of true love. As years go by, life happens. There are bills to be paid, children to nurture, jobs to be done and valleys to walk through. It can suddenly seem that love is unraveling as life becomes overwhelming. Stop and take stock. Settle yourself to be still and ponder the journey of love. Recall the passion of its first beginnings. Rekindle the fire. Put into perspective everything that has begun to cloud love out. Pray and surrender it to the Lord, Our Maker. Live in the fullness of each day, loving as if today were your last.

Brothers and sisters, the time is drawing nigh. The return of our Lord may not be for generations to come, but the time is drawing nigh.

" I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary. Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place..." Revelations 2:2-6 (NIV)

Let us continue to build up our treasures in heaven.

'We are merely moving shadows,
and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth,
not knowing who will spend it.
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?
My only hope is in you.
Rescue me from my rebellion.' Psalm 39:6-8 (NLT)

Talk Tuesday - God's Great Love

This excerpt is from the book, "For these Tough Times," by Max Lucado:

Suppose a man comes upon a child being beaten by thugs. He dashes into the mob, rescues the boy, and carries him to a hospital. The youngster is nursed to health. The man pays for the child's treatment. He learns that the child is an orphan and adopts him as his own and gives the boy his name. And then, one night months later, the father hears the son sobbing into his pillow. He goes to him an asks about the tears.

"I'm worried, Daddy. I'm worried about tomorrow. Where will I get food to eat? How am I going to buy clothes to stay warm? And where will I sleep?"

The father is rightfully troubled. "Haven't I shown you? Don't you understand? I risked my life to save you. I gave my money to treat you. You wear my name. I've called you my son. Would I do all that and then not meet your needs?"

Jesus has payed the ultimate price for our lives. We are sanctified and saved. We are his children. If He can do all that, isn't he going to provide for our every needs?

Today if your are in need of anything ask Jesus. God provides. He did for us and He will do it for you.

Scripture Saturday - James 1:12

"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him." - James 1:12(NIV)

This is a devotional from "The Word for You Today."

God isn't impressed by human ability, dynamic personalities, titles, and designer clothes. He respects people who, when they get knocked down, bounce back with their faith intact, more determined the ever to live for Him. Perseverance means staying in the fight and refusing to give up.

Talk Tuesday-The Beauty of the Lord

Last week I shared about God's amazing grace to use our suffering for His glory. While I was in surgery, a young lady named Natasha was in a coma for 3 months. The Lord orchestrated a chance meeting between our families that prompted my family to pray with Natasha's mother in the OR waiting room and then for Natasha downstairs as she lay on her bed. She is now in Rehab, her mother called last week. That's where we left off.

I was scheduled for a 4 hour surgery that ended up lasting 8 hours due to complications. As I prepared myself for the operation, I thought, "Only You Lord Jesus can go with me into this room. Will you be with me during this operation, Jesus?" Suddenly the anxiety and fear melted away, replaced by an inexplicable, palpable peace. What happened next still leaves me amazed.

I was being wheeled out of the OR with a smile on my face. Jesus, the Lamb of God, answered my prayer. He was with me. I felt an inexplicable joy. I felt exhilarated. I was groggily and happily telling anyone who would listen that Jesus had been with me. Then I opened my eyes only to realize that it was very dark outside. I was unaware of what had transpired in the OR. I lost a considerable amount of blood, had to have an additional procedure done and my physical body ended up experiencing trauma as a result. I never knew it until after the worst was over.

I was privileged to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord while in the land of the living. The Psalmist prays,

Psalm 27:4
"One thing I ask of the LORD,
this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple."

Brothers and sisters, what better treasure is there than to know Jesus? He will walk with us through all our valleys and celebrate with us on the mountaintop. Seek the Lord, while He may be found. Invest in your relationship with Jesus Christ, you will NEVER be disappointed!

Please share your thoughts with us and other BGO community members by clicking on the comments link below. Be blessed!

Scripture Saturday - 1 Samuel 18:1

1 Samuel 18:1

“After David had finished talking with Saul, he met Jonathan, the king’s son. There was an immediate bond between them, for Jonathan loved David.”

Do you have a Jonathan in your life? A friend that is loyal to you to the very end. I heard in a sermon that we should have a Paul, a Jonathan and a Timothy in our lives. A Paul is someone that mentors you. A Jonathan is a close friend that you can share anything with. A Timothy is someone you mentor. Is someone pouring into your life and are you pouring into someone else’s life? Healthy relationships can fuel our lives and help us grow as Christians. Is it time to step out in faith and look for that relationship? I pray God will bless you with a Paul, a Jonathan and a Timothy.

Talk Tuesday- Suffering is Never in Vain

God is faithful to us even in the midst of the storm. Sometimes it doesn't seem obvious but we only have to wait on Him as we patiently endure. I was in the hospital in June for surgery, silently asking Jesus to journey with me through the next 8 hours. As I prepared myself to go into the OR, it occured to me that Jesus is the only Friend who could go the rest of the journey with me, while others quietly prayed for success and a safe recovery. I experienced His presence in a mighty way while being operated on, but I will share more of that on next week's Talk Tuesday blog. I want to share another story with you.
While in the OR waiting room, my family met a lady whose young daughter was on life support with little expectancy of recovery. She began to weep as she recounted her story. This was a DIVINE appointment. The doctors had encouraged this mother to disconnect the machines and allow her daughter to go. They said this was the end. My family members embraced her, went downstairs to visit her daughter and began to pray for Jesus to intervene and heal this young lady who shared the same name as me. Phone numbers were exchanged and I left the hospital 5 days later to begin the arduous journey of recovery. The phone rang in mid-July. It was the young lady's mother. She called to report that her daughter was disconnected from lifesupport and miraculously survived. Her condition still seemed to offer little hope for a full recovery.
Yesterday her mother called again. Her daughter has not only regained consciousness and her appetite, but she is now in the recovery hospital re-learning core skills. I no longer wonder why I walk this journey, I just know that God has an amazing plan along the way. Brothers and sisters, submit unto God your hardships, joys, suffering and success. He will use it for His honour and glory while blessing you in ways unimagineable.

Matthew 19:26 "Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"

Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

We love hearing from you. Please click on the 'comments' link below to respond.

Scripture Saturday - Gensis 50:20

"But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive."

This verse is taken from Genesis. Joseph was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. What they meant for evil God meant for good. Because of what they did he became the one that would save them from famine.

So you might be looking at an evil someone has done to you and you are wondering, "Why me?" God has a plan. God is in control. He can take that situation and turn it around for good. Just trust in Him today.

Scripture Saturday - Love – Take a second look.

We all know 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.

We hear it at every wedding but do we really believe it or apply it to our relationships. My wife and I did a marriage talk on conflict resolution and used this scripture in our message. When I was doing my research for the talk, God lead me to this scripture and I looked at it in a new way. It is really a blueprint for our relationships, especially our marriages. The verse says love is patient, love is kind….it is not rude… How many times have we gotten into arguments and forgotten this. If we really believe in Christ, if we really believe in love…love never fails. So if you are having problems in your marriage, remember love never fails. Read this scripture over and over again. Let the truth of the Word of God resonate in your heart. And remember …love never fails.

Talk Tuesday - The ONE

I have a Question for everyone. Do you think that God has ONE person in mind for you to get married to or do you just meet a person, fall in love and get married? I have had debates with people saying that it is impossible that God created one person just for you. What do you think?

Talk Tuesday-The Unseen

Our journey with the Lord is one of constant growth and stretching. Our imagination is stretched as our faith grows. We are required to trust God, whom we cannot see, while standing in the midst of our trials which we do see. That does not mean that we do not have to pass through the fires. It does mean, however, that we will not get burned (Isaiah 43:2) In 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 the apostle Paul reminds us that:

"... our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

Isn't comforting to know that God does not waste our pain? I find it brings me peace. I know that my Abba Father is transforming me more into His image and likeness, developing Christ-likeness in me. It is like the awful tasting medicine that your parents gave you as a child. You hated it but it made you better and stronger.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4

God is faithful. I am attempting to lay at the foot of the cross what is seen in exchange for what is unseen.

Hebrews 11:1
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."

May God strengthen you as you face life's rugged terrain.

Sermon Sunday

Hi Everyone! This post is from one of our faithful BGO community members, Brenda. Enjoy!

On three extraordinary nights at APC, Pastor Stuart Mulligan (former senior pastor) taught on a Glimpse of Heaven His teachings were divided as follows:

Week 1- REAP: be Ready, be Encouraged, be Active and be Pure while awaiting the return Jesus Christ.

Week 2- Payday Someday – We will all stand before the Living God to give an account of our stewardship – the Great White Throne Judgment.

Week 3- Heaven - Welcome Home!!

I thought I would share my notes from week 3 with you!

In thinking about Heaven, we have sketches, but not all the details. John provides some basic facts about Heaven. “Let not your heart be troubled…” The one thing we do know is there will be a multitude of surprises, John 14: 1-6 & Revelations 21: 1-7.

Four things Jesus teaches about Heaven:

1. Heaven is a real place – “I go to prepare a place for you…”

2. Heaven is a commodious place “there are many mansions.” Rev. 7: 9, “I saw a great multitude…”

3. Heaven is a glorious place – a place where there will be no night/darkness, lit only by the glory of our God. “Where I am there you may be also.” In describing the glory of God, he emphasized the face that, the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ is of utmost in Heaven.

4. Heaven is an accessible place – “you know where I am going.” “I am the WAY.” The vilest offender who truly believes has equal access to Heaven.“

John received a vision and records, paints a picture of Heaven for us.

Revelations 21:7.

So what will we be doing in Heaven?

1. Heaven will be a life of Fellowship:

Rev. 22:4, We will see the Lord and talk to Him face to face. Then there is the eternal fellowship with all God’s people. We will have the opportunity to speak to our heroes (Moses, David, Ruth, Luke, Paul.)

2. A Life of Rest:

Rev. 14:13, We will rest from our labour, from the drudgery of back-breaking work in this life.

3. A Life of Full Knowledge:

1Cor 13:12, “now we know in part, then we shall know…” The great prospect of Heaven will be to have questions answered and explanations for those difficult times. Things that have happened in our family, to friends – in Heaven we will understand!

4. A Life of Holiness:

Rev. 21:27, John outlines the things we will never find in Heaven. No impurity!

5. A Life of Joy:

Rev. 21:4, our tears shall be wiped away – there will be no funerals in Heaven, no cancer, no pain, no suffering and NO more crying. We will be made whole by our Father in Heaven.

6. A Life of Service:

No more curse – His servants shall serve Him! There will be specific responsibilities for each of us – and we will be fully rewarded…AMEN!

7. A life for abundance:

Rev. 21:7. “He that overcomes shall inherit all things.” All things that are good will be given to those who love Jesus!

8. A life Worship:

Rev. 19:1. We shall sing a new song according to John, the Revelator. Heaven is a place of magnificent worship. Every tongue, creed and tribe will bow down and worship the King of Kings and Lord of ALL Lords, King Jesus!

In conclusion, Pastor Mulligan reminded us that many of us have unsaved Loved Ones and the truth is, you are either with God or against Him. We MUST continue to seek the Lord for those who are lost in our families, communities and throughout the Nations.

Talk Tuesday -Your Treasure

Do you often ponder life and wonder what it's all about? We rise early, go to work, come home and prepare for the next day. It is a cycle that is an integral part of life, but it is not life itself. We live in an age where materialism has been elevated to a god-like status. We work to survive but are some of us living to work? What is your main focus- your treasure?

Jesus says this in Matthew 6:20-21

"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

If Jesus is your treasure, then even daily, mundane tasks can take on new meaning.

Colossians 3:23

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men
"

We can let our light shine-the light of Jesus Christ in our hearts- so as to give testimony to His love, presence and goodness in our lives. We are called to be the salt of the earth, making those around us thirst for the living water that Jesus promised. In John 8:12 Jesus says,

"I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Brothers and sisters, be encouraged in the Lord as you walk daily with Him. Keep Him at the center of your lives so that even the mundane things can take on new meaning and bring glory to Him. Be blessed!

Scripture Saturday - Habakkuk 2:2-4

The Scripture verse for today comes from Habakkuk 2:2-4

Then the LORD answered me and said:

“ Write the vision
And make it plain on tablets,
That he may run who reads it.
For the vision is yet for an appointed time;
But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.
Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come,
It will not tarry.
“ Behold the proud,
His soul is not upright in him;
But the just shall live by his faith.

As I was looking at the making of the movie for Flywheel, the first movie from the makers of Facing the Giants, I heard one of the producers mention this verse. They posted it above the Macs they were working on to produce the film. I am using it now to encourage me with the visions God has given me.

Has God given you a vision? Do you have a vision hidden away on a scrap of paper somewhere in your house? Well it's time to find it. If God has birth a vision in your heart maybe He wants you to act on it now. No matter how BIG or small it is, give it to God. "The just shall live by faith." Believe that He can do it. Don't be afraid of trying.

Talk Tuesday-Walk By Faith Not By Sight

This really moved me during my devotional time. I felt led to share it with you. It is long, please bear with me. I'll just start with a bit of Old Testament history. Please share your thoughts.

Judah was taken under siege by Babylon during the reign of Jehoiachin (Jeconiah), King of Judah. Jehoiachin and the people of Judah were deported to Bablyon (Jeremiah 29:2). A remnant was left in Judah under the reign of King Zedekiah, who was appointed by the Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar. The Prophet Jeremiah had fortold of the Babylonian invasion and the 70 year occupation decreed by the Lord. The Lord instructed them to submit to the Babylonians, as this was the Lord's punishment for their spiritual unfaithfulness. False prophets arose promising victory over Babylon with 2 years (Jeremiah 28). The Prophet Jeremiah was persecuted by his own people for speaking the word of the Lord.

Jerusalem falls, King Zedekiah is captured and more people are deported to Babylon (2 Kings 25, Jeremiah 52). King Nebuchadnezzar appoints Gedeliah to be Governor over the remnant in Judah. The Jewish people are comforted as one of their own is in a place of leadership. Those dispersed among foreign countries return to Judah. Gedeliah the Governor is assisinated (Jeremiah 41). The Jewish people are eventually rescued by Johanan son of Kareah. They are heading to Egypt as a place of refuge from the Babylonians.

They are weary, tired, hurt, confused, hungry, desiring shelter and protection. They have purposed in their hearts to return to Egypt as they seek refuge from Babylonia. The people remember the Lord their God and seek Jeremiah the Prophet for a word from the Lord. Aware of their past disobedience, they say to Jeremiah (Jeremiah 42:5-6),

"May the LORD be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not act in accordance with everything the LORD your God sends you to tell us. Whether it is favorable or unfavorable, we will obey the LORD our God, to whom we are sending you, so that it will go well with us, for we will obey the LORD our God."

The people of Judah understand the concept of obedience and blessing. In their darkest moment they seek the Lord and promise obedience. In Jeremiah 42:7-18 the Lord answers. He instructs the people to remain in Judah where it will go well with them. However, if they insist on going to Egypt, they will perish by the sword, famine and plague. Jeremiah was accused of lying (Jeremiah 43:1-3) and the people proceeded to Egypt.

Have you ever wondered why a people who constantly witnessed the glory of the Lord would turn away in disobedience so frequently? I only need to look at myself for that answer. How many times have I walked by sight and not by faith? The people of Judah were instructed by the Lord, yet they chose to trust in what they saw instead of in the unseen God who revealed His might to them throughout their generations. Hebrews 11 states that

vs 6 'And without faith it is impossible to please God'

vs 1 'Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.'

I want to urge you to TRUST HIM today. I felt led to share this as the Lord has been stretching my faith and patiently teaching me to walk by FAITH and not by SIGHT. Whatever you are facing today, let me exhort you to TRUST and OBEY. The God who you do not see will work out the situation that you do see, whatever it is. Seek Him, listen to Him, praise Him and obey Him. He will bless you.

Talk Tuesday - Remain in His Love

John Chapter 15:9-11, "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed My Father's commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete."

Sermon Sunday

Good morning everyone. Today is a good day. It's time to share your Sunday sermon with us. We pray that you have a great Lord's Day. We enjoy hearing the different messages from everyone's home church. It's a time to bless one another with the Word of God.

Click on the comments link below to post your Sunday Sermon.

The topic of this Sunday's sermon: When Two Kingdoms Collide.

The Pastor took us through a historical account of the Kingdom of God during the darkness of the reign of the Herod the Tetrarch. Herod was a tyrant whose paranoia and desire to retain the power of his earthly kingdom made him an exceedingly ruthless leader. He imprisoned John the Baptist because he pointed out his sin of adultery (Luke 3:19). Herod eventually killed John the Baptist (Mark 6:17-29).

This did not deter Jesus who fearlessly continued preaching the gospel of the Kingdom of God in spite of Herod's political power. Jesus was bold, unafraid and dangerous to the kingdom of darkness. His purpose was clear and he could not be deterred. Our purpose is clear and we should not be deterred.

In Luke 13:31, the Pharisees came and warned Jesus to flee as Herod wanted to kill him. Jesus replies (Luke 13:32) " Go tell that fox, I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal."

A fox is known for being sly and cunning- a deceiver. What is the 'fox' in your life that is preventing you from being bold and fearless for the kingdom of God? We are all commissioned to bring forth the message of the Kingdom of God-the Gospel of Salvation- in spite of the current world view or political climate. Is it a 'fox' of doubt, fear or anxiety? Know that we have one who is even more powerful than any 'fox' in our lives who is able to protect, deliver and overcome.

Luke 13:34 Jesus says, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who sent you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing." Why does Jesus choose a hen of all animals to liken Himself too, and those He loves as chicks? When a fox comes into a chicken coop the hen, who is defenseless, will give her life in order to protect the chicks. The sacrifice of the hen's life, will be enough to satiate the hunger of the fox and the chicks will be spared.

That is what Jesus did for us. He paid it all, He satisfied the requirement of the law and became a sin offering on our behalf so that we do not have to pay the price. Let us identify the 'foxes' in our lives and lay them down before the King of Glory, Jesus Christ. He has paid the price. We need to be bold, blazing a trail for the Kingdom of God.

Scripture Saturday - Jeremiah 31:3

Jeremiah 31:3

I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with loving-kindness.

God's love is so great, so awesome, His love lasts forever.  No matter what we do, He still loves us.  So if you are struggling with something, it is good to know that He still loves you.  He will never leave you or forsake you.

If you are anxious or afraid just check out God's Yellow Pages for the appropriate scripture verse.

Talk Tuesday-What Are Your Thoughts?

I thought we'd do something different this week. I'd like to hear from you.

In the gospel of John Chapter 14:1-6, Jesus comforts his disciples saying,

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God[a]; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

Thomas said to him, 'Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?'
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

What promises is our Lord making in this passage of scripture and how are they relevant to us today? Please share your thoughts by clicking on the 'comments' link below.

Talk Tuesday-The Olympic Race

What do you think of when the Olympics comes to mind? The grits, the glory, the fame? Isn't it awe inspiring to look at an athlete who, in the pursuit of athletic excellence, obtains the highest prize- an Olympic Gold Medal?

Yet, there are two things I often wonder about. The athlete who, after much sacrifice, does not win and the athlete whose Olympic success exceeds their wildest dreams. The crowds go home, life continues, bodies age and the glory or disappointment fades. Then what?

As Christians we press onwards towards the eternal prize.

I enjoy gymnastics and swimming immensely. There is no shortage of excitement in the 2008 Beijing Olympic games. During the 100 meter women's freestyle a swimmer won her qualifying heat at an electrifying time of 53.49 seconds. She triumphantly climbed out of the water only to realize she had been disqualified for, as quoted by the Canadian Press, "..flinching slightly at the start of the two-lap race."

Not only did she not get the medal, she did not even get to compete in the race that mattered the most.

In 2 Corinthians 9:24-27, the apostle Paul states,

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize."

So, I ask the question, 'Is the race really for the swift?' Please add your comments by clicking on the 'comments' link below. We would love to hear from you.

Sermon Sunday

How was church for you today? We had a really good sermon with a lot of good take homes, but there was something the pastor said that really spoke to me, “God is in the details of our life.” Sometimes we forget that He is in control. He provides for our every need. Isn’t it comforting to know that He is always there for us….in every detail. Praise Him.

Please share your Sunday Sermon with us. God Bless.

Scripture Saturday - Psalm 121

As we were having praise and worship today my wife got this Word from Psalm 121. I pray it ministers to you.

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

If you have a word from the Lord please share it with us.

Talk Tuesday

Have you ever walked through the valley and wondered why you were there? In my hurt and pride I demanded to know WHY. Why was the Lord allowing me to walk through such a life-altering valley? The Lord, in His tender mercy, answered me through the Word of Jeremiah the Prophet.

Jeremiah 12-Jeremiah's Complaint (vs.1-3)
"You are always righteous, O LORD, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease? You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit. You are always on their lips but far from their hearts. Yet you know me, O LORD; you see me and test my thoughts about you."

God's Answer (vs. 5)
"If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage by the thickets of the Jordan?"

The Lord in His infinite mercy ministered to my proud heart that all trials are unto a purpose, regardless of their nature. Trials are meant to increase our faith and prepare us to be able to stand in the midst of the storm, leaning on the Everlasting Rock of our Salvation Jesus Christ. As each trial ends a new one is on the horizon of life. As each new victory passes a new one also awaits us. As an athlete gains strength through training, we gain strength through trusting Him in each valley. I have been humbled continuously by His wisdom.

Sermon Sunday - Praise Him in our Trials

Happy Lord's Day. Church was good as usual. Our pastor talked about praising God through your trials. Job, Habakkuk, John, Paul and Silas did it when they went through their trials. When we don't feel like praising Him still praise Him. He is faithful and true to meet our needs.

How was the sermon at your Church? If you got a good message share it with us. Just click on the comments link to post it.

Scripture Saturday - Psalm 30:1-5

As I was reading my Word this week I came across a verse that helped me through some hard times. I pray that it will give you some comfort as well.

Psalm 30:1-5

I will exalt you, O LORD,
for you lifted me out of the depths
and did not let my enemies gloat over me.

O LORD my God, I called to you for help
and you healed me.

O LORD, you brought me up from the grave;
you spared me from going down into the pit.

Sing to the LORD, you saints of his;
praise his holy name.

For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may remain for a night,
but rejoicing comes in the morning.

Talk Tuesday-The Awesomeness of God in The Valley of Tears

I love nature. It speaks of the glory of God, showing forth His awesomeness and might in each intricate detail outlined by the brush of His artistry. Yet, when faced trials, we often tremble at the circumstance before us. Why?

As I watched the Youtube Video from Chris Tomlin’s ‘How Great is Our God’ tour (currently posted on this blog), I heard the speaker, Lou Giglio, say the following:

“Sin, it has a way of shrinking God down in our minds and puffing us up in our own estimation. But just a glance into the universe God has made resizes everything in a heartbeat.”

‘Do not fear’ is written 365 times in the Bible.

Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” (KJV)

We are instructed to be, “Joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer” Romans 12:12 (NIV)

How can the awesomeness of God affect our outlook of our circumstance as we walk through the valley of tears? I look forward to hearing and learning from you. Please click on the 'comments' link to respond.
