Happy Thanksgiving B.G.O.:

I came home from our service today anxious to share what I got from it with everyone. When I went into the site to do so,I was blessed not only by Natasha's testimony, but by the many scriptures there that for some reason spoke to me in a very meaningful way today. In our service today, the pastor's message was one about the Thankgiving holiday, and was basically three-fold. He first explained the origins of it, then why we do it, and then how and why we do.

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1789 when George Washington set aside a day on the advice of the Pilgrim Fathers to praise, rejoice and be grateful for all of God's blessings. He pointed out that Pilgrim actually means "trailblazer", and related that to being obedient to God,as did the original religious pilgrims who were looking for the Eternal City of God, and died in faith while doing so.

Next he reminded us that giving thanks is spirtually exhorted,as we're told in Psalm 103:50.

To answer the questions of how and when, he stated that we do it when we pray, and that we should be thankful always, not just when things are going well for us, but also to try to remember that God always puts us where we need to be, and that He promises to be there with us in the darker times. He pointed out that the Bible makes it mandatory that we're thankful, and that David suggests that it's up to us whether we're grateful or not. Thanksgiving also reminds us that we don't lack for much, and proceeded to make a partial list of the many things we have to be thankful for.I couldn't keep up jotting them all down and had to stop at 15! He then pointed out that too often we get caught up looking at the gifts themselves, and that we should spend as much time appreciating the giver: Our Almighty Father!

Of the multitude of blessings I am grateful for this year, I have added the fact that Andrew and Natasha have made this forum available to us,and that Natasha is so faithful in sharing her testimony with us.

It is truly a joy that God has chosen to use Andrew and Natasha in the way that He has to minister to me in such a wonderful and creative way.

Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving,
Blessings,
Dawn
