Sermon Sunday -The Holiness of God

Today's sermon at church focused on Romans Chapter 1 vs 18-32. When we come to God, we must stand in awesome reverence of who He truly is. We are to worship the Creator, not what is created. When we set up idols in our lives and turn our hearts away from the living God, the consequence is pain and the blindness of sin. God never rewards sin.

We should remember to:

1. Always acknowledge God for who He is. We do this by praising Him, reading and meditating on His word and praying daily.

2. Always give Him thanks. Think of things to say thank you for, even when you are walking through the storms of life. This is the act of praise.

3. Always be thankful to the Lord. A thankful heart is full of praise. This is the attitude or posture of praise.

Please share the sermon you heard this Sunday or comment on the one posted. Click the comments link below to post your thoughts. God bless you!

Scripture Saturday - Psalm 37:25

When I was preparing for Talk Tuesday I came across this piece of scripture:

I was young and now I am old,
yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken
or their children begging bread.

If you are not working now or don't know how you are going to pay your bills, trust God, He always provides. I was out of work for a long time but God always provided.

Talk Tuesday - Can we Trust Jesus in these hard times?

How can we know if He is faithful unless we are in need? Have you ever been in need? Have you lost your job or can't pay rent? I want to tell you right now God is faithful. If you looked at the video on Monday it showed how 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus. When they did not have anything God sent people to provide for their need. My wife and I can attest to God's goodness. Since I became a Christian, God always provided. When I was without a job God provided. One time we received a monetary gift and wondered what could we do with this and then our car needed fixing for the exact amount of the gift. Another time our bible study group blessed us and we thought we did not need it but God knew that we did. So this Talk Tuesday let's talk about how 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus. Tell us your story or tell us your need. God is faithful. He truly is.

Scripture Saturday - Deuteronomy 28:1-14

This is a promise to the Israelites but it can also be a promise to you today.

If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God:

You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.

The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.

Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.

You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.

The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.

The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.

The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in his ways. Then all the peoples on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you. The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you.

The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.

Talk Tuesday-Our Struggles

Hi BGO Community!
Today we are featuring a guest writer, Trusting in God. Enjoy and please click on the comments link below to express your feelings on the topic or to view the input of others.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our Struggles

Sometimes life can feel so daunting for the Christian - the trials come in such swift succession!. We suffer at the hands of one taskmaster after the other – in the workplace, in society, in the home and yes, even in the church!
Then the enemy shows us others, among them also, those who are living according to the dictates of the world and they seem to be prospering, while we find ourselves reeling from one blow after the other from life.
Yet in the midst of this, we know that the God we serve is faithful. He sees our misery and our cries for help rise up to Him. He hears our groaning and remembers His covenant with us and because He is a loving Father, he delivers us from our daunting situations.

The Book of Exodus gives us a heart-wrenching account of the abject oppression of the Israelites by the Egyptian king and his administration:
“ The Egyptians became ruthless in imposing tasks on the Israelites, and made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and brick and in every kind of field labour. They were ruthless in all the tasks that they imposed on them” (vv.1:13-14)
“Out of the slavery, their cry for help rose up to God. God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God looked upon the Israelites and took notice of them” (vv 1:23-25)
“……I have observed the misery of my people who are in Egypt; I have heard their cries on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, and I have come down to deliver them from the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land to a good and broad land, a land flowing with milk and honey……….” ( vv. 3:7-8)

There were other trials for the Israelites, but their deliverance and walk into the promised land came ‘in God’s timing.’

What trials seem to plague you today? Does life seem daunting?
Trust God – He will come through for you in the fullness of time.

Scripture Saturday - Matthew 5:13

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.

We are called to be salt and light. As Christians we are suppose to be different. When we come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Savior we should be changed and transformed. Come back tomorrow for the Sunday Sermon and listen to an amazing message. Get ready to be challenged.

Talk Tuesday-What Are The Things That Cause Us to Stumble?

I recently went through the worst trial of my life. I prayed to know of the suffering of Christ and the Lord allowed me to experience physical suffering as I had never known before. I was hospitalized for a few months, during which time I learned about the faithfulness and mercy of God. I witnessed my parents crying out to God night after night, begging God to take away my pain. My husband poured his heart out before the Lord on my behalf. My siblings stood unwaveringly by my side. My Christian family lifted my name up to the Lord, yet the only one truly capable of walking with me through the pain and anguish was Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God.

Each day I was given a choice, to proceed with Him or without Him. Each day we are given the choice, to proceed with Him, or without Him. Our lifestyles reflect our decisions. I was recently sharing with a friend about how deceptive our emotions can be. Emotions can cause us to see things not as they are but as we 'feel' them to be at the moment. Emotions can cause us to walk by sight and not by faith. Committment is a choice and it's follow through is an act of faith.

When I think back to my experience, I am ever aware of how pain attempts to ravage our emotions and distort truth. Pain takes on many forms- the pain of longing, the pain of seemingly unaswered prayer, the pain of loneliness, the pain of depression, the pain of unforgiveness- the list goes on. Jesus wept in the Garden of Gethsemane, yet He obeyed the will of His Father instead of His feelings.

"My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." Matthew 26:39

I have soberly been thinking on these things and meditating on these scriptures:

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:21

"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God." Colossians 3:2-3

Brothers and Sisters, what causes Christians to stumble? What tempts us to turn our faces away from God? How can we protect ourselves and stand firm in the faith without conforming to the pattern of this world? How can we get back? What can we do to encourage one another when we fall? Is there anything we do for a sibling who has turned away?

We would love to hear from you. Please share with us by clicking on the comments link below.

Scripture Saturday - Psalm 139:14

I have been meditating on this Psalm for the whole week. The verse that stands out for me is Psalm 139:14 NIV

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

No matter what you think about yourself, God thinks you are special. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. He has made you for a specific plan and purpose, that only you can fulfill. Remember, God does not make any junk.

Talk Tuesday-How Is It Possible to Stand in Faith?

Do you ever look around and wonder what is happening in the world these days? Do things seem to be radically changing from the way you expect them to be? Do you feel safe and confident for the future? Does your vision for the future include God at the helm?

Many of us say that we want God to lead us yet we often find ourselves attempting to lead Him. I, unfortunately, have been guilty of this many times. I have found that the one thing I hold closest to my heart is the thing that is difficult for me to surrender to God. Is it the same for you? I have also discovered that it is also the thing that the enemy of my soul uses to try to dissuade me from faith in Christ. God's Word instructs us on faith.

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him." Hebrew 11:6

"Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1

How can we deepen our faith in God? Is faith a muscle that needs to be flexed in order to become stronger? What are some of the pitfalls of the 'faithful' and how can they be avoided?

We here at BGO need to hear from you today! We need to strenghten one another now more than ever before. Please click on the comments link below to add your thoughts or view others comments.
