Talk Tuesday - The Challenge!!!

Are you ready for a Challenge? Are you hearing from God these days? Is there too much noise in your life? How do we expect to hear from God when we consume so much media? Do you spend more time on Facebook than reading your bible? Are you so busy during the day that all you want to do is veg and look at some TV? If you answered 'yes' then this challenge is for you!

For 1 week we are challenging you to go on a media fast.

No Facebook
No twitter
No internet
No TV
No Radio

For 1 week let us stop, be silent and see what God has to say to us.

What are you going to do for a week? Read your bible. Pray. Worship. Be still. Listen.

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1:35

So here is what to do…

Take one week and fast from all media. Then come back to BGO and tell us what God has done in your life.

If you think this is a good idea forward this email to your friends so they can take the Challenge. See you in a week.

God Bless

Andrew and Natasha

Talk Tuesday - Are you hearing from God?

Are you hearing from God lately? Life sometimes gets so busy that we don’t have time for God. We come home tired from work and all we want to do is look at TV or surf the internet. We hardly have any quiet time. We are always being entertained. What would happen if we stopped all the media and spent time listening to God? Do you think He would speak to us? Do you think we could hear His voice? How about going on a media fast for one week? Yes, no facebook, no twitter, no internet, no radio and no TV. For one week. I know this is going to be hard for some of you (it was hard for me and my wife) but I do believe that God wants a deeper relationship with us but we have to cut out all the noise first. That is why we are giving you a week’s notice before we offer ‘The Challenge’ to you. So starting next week Tuesday we are going on a media fast for one week. If you are going to take up ‘The Challenge’ tell us by posting a comment. Challenge your friends to join us and let’s see what God has to say.

Talk Tuesday - God Help Me!!!

It is amazing how God uses situations to reveal Himself to us. When Tash was in the hospital and everything possible was going wrong, all I could to do was call out to God. When it really got bad my friends could not help me, the pastors could not help me, and even my family could not help me, only God could help me. If we look in the Bible God did the same. God took the Israelites out of Egypt with His mighty hand. Pharaoh eventually chased after them and met them at the shores of the Red Sea. The Israelites looked at their situation and could not see a way out. They were backed into a corner and it seemed hopeless, but God had a plan. What did God do? He opened up the Red Sea so that the Israelites could walk over to the other side safely. “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26.

So what are you going through now? Are you backed in a corner? Does it seem that there is no way out? Remember, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26. God wants to reveal Himself to you today. He wants to be your shield and your strength. When we are in difficult situations, He will show Himself STRONG. When God took us through the two surgeries He grew our faith. I learned more about God’s faithfulness in the last two years than in the 10 years that I have been a Christian. Is your view of God BIG? Do you believe that God can take you through your storm? He can and He will. Trust Him. Even if all you can do is cry out, “God Help Me!”

Talk Tuesday- In the Midst of the Trial

Life can seem like an uphill battle sometimes. We are constantly clambering to get out of the valley onto the mountaintop, where the landscape of our lives seems clearer from the brighter, higher vantage point. Trials come unexpectedly into our lives, upsetting our daily routines and challenging our belief systems. Yet what changes us and strengthens us is how we choose to act in the midst of it. I learned a lesson of trust from King David (1 Samuel Chapters 8 to 30).

When the LORD GOD brought Israel out of the land of Egypt into the Promised Land, the Israelites requested to have a king rule over them. The LORD sent His prophet Samuel to anoint Saul, son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, as king. Once established, Saul rebelled against the LORD. GOD chose to take the kingdom away from Saul and give it to one whose heart was more faithful-David, the son of Jesse, of the tribe of Judah. David slew Goliath of Gath, the Philistine giant whose people were enemies of Israel. He entered into King Saul's service and grew in favour with GOD, the king and man. Saul became very jealous of David and sought to murder him. David fled Saul's wrath, with his men and their families, seeking refuge in the Philistine city of Ziklag, where they were allowed to settle.

The Philistines again decided to go to war against Israel. David and his men came to join the Philistine army but were turned back by their rulers, who did not trust David's intentions. When David and his men returned, they found themselves in an unanticipated, painful trial:

When David and his men came to Ziklag, they found it destroyed by fire and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. So David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep. David's two wives had been captured—Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel. David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. 1 Samuel 30:3-6

David was faithful to the LORD, the king, his own men and even to the Philistine enemy yet he faced rejection from everyone around him. How did David choose to act in the darkness of the valley?

"But David found strength in the LORD his GOD." 1 Samuel 30:6

As I pondered this statement, I began to reflect on my own life. Many times I have felt deep sorrow, saddened by the trials. Yet, when no one could understand my pain, GOD was there. He comforted me in every storm. His Holy Spirit guided me when I could not see. He loved me through His Son Jesus Christ, forgiving me each time I faltered in my faith. Then He led me out of the valley and unto the mountaintop where I celebrated His Mighty hand and my victory. He did this for David too:

David recovered everything the Amalekites had taken, including his two wives. Nothing was missing: young or old, boy or girl, plunder or anything else they had taken. David brought everything back. He took all the flocks and herds, and his men drove them ahead of the other livestock, saying, "This is David's plunder." 1 Samuel 30:18-20

The LORD not only restored to David everything that was lost, but gave him even more because he chose to trust Him. Are you in the storm of your life? Do you feel all alone? Choose to trust in the LORD, He is trustworthy. Your faith will be strengthened as you witness His Mighty hand at work on your behalf.

"Be still, and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6
