Talk Tuesday-How Is It Possible to Stand in Faith?

Do you ever look around and wonder what is happening in the world these days? Do things seem to be radically changing from the way you expect them to be? Do you feel safe and confident for the future? Does your vision for the future include God at the helm?

Many of us say that we want God to lead us yet we often find ourselves attempting to lead Him. I, unfortunately, have been guilty of this many times. I have found that the one thing I hold closest to my heart is the thing that is difficult for me to surrender to God. Is it the same for you? I have also discovered that it is also the thing that the enemy of my soul uses to try to dissuade me from faith in Christ. God's Word instructs us on faith.

"And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him." Hebrew 11:6

"Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1

How can we deepen our faith in God? Is faith a muscle that needs to be flexed in order to become stronger? What are some of the pitfalls of the 'faithful' and how can they be avoided?

We here at BGO need to hear from you today! We need to strenghten one another now more than ever before. Please click on the comments link below to add your thoughts or view others comments.

Our "feelings" about a situation can often times be more real and tangible than our "faith" about a situation and I guess that is where a real battle can occur. Going one direction vs another can often make more sense in our limited human understanding (it just "feels" more right instinctively) rather than choosing to believe in an outcome that you cannot yet see. In that sense, faith is like a muscle that must be exercised in order to grow.

This is why altars were often built to the Lord in the old testament where something significant occurred that the Lord had done for a person or for Israel as a reminder, and to cumulatively build their faith. Similarly, its probably a good idea to journal our prayer requests and answers and see these "altars" grow over time to help build our faith so it becomes easier to trust the Lord in bigger situations.

And with that said, I should take my own advice! :)

"Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone."
Genesis 35:3

I was talking to my wife about that the other day. I was remaindering her of what the people of Israel did in the Old Testament. I told her that I would often look back at my journals and read of how good God was. We often forget what God has done in our lives. Keeping a journal helps us when we go through another hard time. I highly recommend keeping a journal.

Faith is really like a muscle. My faith has surely increase since the trial Tash and I had to go through. After getting bad news after bad news, all I could do was hold on to God. God came through for us in the end and all I can do is praise Him. All I can say is we serve a BIG GOD. If you are going through a trial now, hold on to God, He will see you through.

I have discovered that faith is very important for the believer. i have learnt that we need to hold fast to faith even when life looks so very bleak and the waters threaten to engulf God's people. For the Christian it is absolutely inportant to hang on to 'faith' though at times, for us, it may be like 'that grain of mustard seed.' God comes through all the time!

Remember King David’s battle with Goliath. How it was made known how David’s confidence in his faith was strengthened to stand before the giant in the name of the Lord. When in 1 Sam17:37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

My dear readers all you have to do to receive and believe on the on the Lord Jesus Christ because he is the master planner of all who reside on the earth. He is all-sufficient, omnipotent God who is responsible for our salvation. Just receive Him with all your heart and obtain a perpetual spring of living water within you that gives eternal life. (John 4:11; 7:38) Amen

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching (Heb. 10:23-25) To believe in Jesus and stand “firm to the end” will take determination, because our faith will be challenged and opposed. This involves overcoming difficulties and withstanding pressures from the world. One of the ways in which we can overcome these trials and troubles is to meet God inside his dwelling place, his holy temple. Going to a church assembly can help us step aside from the busy cares of this life so we can quietly meditate and pray. The place that Christians are to find edification and encouragement is not out in the world, but in the prayers, singing, teaching, and fellowship in the worship of our God. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord (Col. 3:16).
