Sermon Sunday

This Sunday Sermon was about idols. The Pastor used a great example to illustrate his point. Suppose you are going to meet the best chef in the world and he/she was going to make you your favorite meal. You get in your car and on your way you eat some old popcorn you found in the car. You keep on going and find some old chips in the backseat, you eat that. When you finally get there you are full because you ate all the junk and you no longer have an appetite for the good meal, Godly blessings.

What's the idol in your life that is preventing you from experiencing the fullness of God's blessing? Is it a statue, a person or a job? It's time to remove that idol and worship God alone.

How was your Sunday at church? Please share it with us by clicking on the comments link below.

Our teaching today was entitled "Rebuilding:The Journey Forward" and in it Eilleen Richardson stressed how important it was when we're going through difficult times, never to lose the faith that God is always in control no matter how it may seem. We simply need to ask His help to have whatever it is we need to get through it. This increases our faith, and we will then have a strong foundation on which to rebuild after the tough times are over and we want to move forward. She used several verses from Nehemiah to illustrate her point. She also reminded us that when rebuilding,it is imperative that we know where we want to go and how to go about it. We therefore needn't be afraid to ask God where He wants us to go and what He wants us to do. Tonight her husband Pastor Tom Richardson gave his testimony about how he was miraculously first saved, then healed following an explosion that caused him to suffer 3rd degree burns to 90% of his body.

My mother and grandmother have been going through some incredibly tense times, and I've been feeling somewhat ineffective in trying to help relieve the tension, and when I got home tonight after having asked for prayer both this morning and tonight,we heard from my grandmother, and she has made the difficult decision to move into a nursing home which has been the troublesome issue in the past few weeks. I always knew that prayer works, but I was blown away at how timely it seemed today.I don't know who all else may have been praying as well but I thank God for His answer.

Dawn, God is awesome. Prayer does work and the Lord Jesus Christ hears our prayers. I want to encourage everyone to cry out to the Lord. We must continue to pray for one another and ourselves. We are thankful to hear that everything worked out with your grandmother!

Today Pastor Smith preached on idols. Andrew gave us a great example from the sermon in the Sermon Sunday heading. Here are some key points:

1. Why are idols so attractive?
Idols are a quick fix to pug the hole in our souls that thirst for God.
The Price: Bondage
(1 Corinthians 10:19-21)

2. What is the price you pay for having idols?
Idols give you a feeling of control over your spirituality
The Price: You lose your appetite for God's true blessing as you become absorbed by the counterfeit
(Jeremiah 1:16, Jeremiah 2:11)

3. Why is God so against idols?
Idols provide a tangible pathway for seeking metaphysical help/experience
The Price: Betrayal
(Jeremiah 2:27-28)

Two Bigger Truths to Live By
1. We become like what we worship (Psalm 115:8)
2. We become our best when we destroy every idol and worship God alone (Mark 12:30 & Luke 4:8)

Remember to serve GOD and GOD alone. With idols there are always STRINGS attached!
