I was really inspired by this passage:

"And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did? But He turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men's lives but to save them." Luke 9:54-56

What does this mean to you? What manner of spirit are we, believers in Christ Jesus, of?

@KellyKelly, I posted a response to your question, 'Why does Jesus curse the fig tree?' in the previous week's Bible Talk (Jan. 17-23). Really great question...keep em' coming!

The Samaritans did not want to receive Jesus so James and John in anger lashed out in the fleshly manner by asking Jesus if He wanted them to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them. Jesus, however, reminded them that their response was not in keeping with the CHRIST-ian witness. If we are followers of Jesus Christ we must be light and salt in all our actions.
