Here is an interesting tidbit of information concerning the Gospel of John, that I learned from my course in New Testament History and Theology. It is taken from the book, Witnesses of Hope, written by Dr. Ian Scott:

"Ancient tradition is unanimous that the book was written by John, the son of Zebedee. He was not only one of Jesus' hand-picked circle of twelve leading disciples. John was also one of the three that Jesus seems to have drawn closest to himself. All of the synoptic evangelists agree that John was with his brother James and Peter on the hilltop in Galilee when they saw their Teacher gloriously transformed, talking with Elijah and Moses. Perhaps it is because of these intimate moments with Jesus, because of the fleeting glimpses of glory that seared his eyes, that John felt free to unveil in his teaching the divine nature of Jesus." Keep on plugging along, reading as we allow our hearts to be transformed by the Word of God!

Blessings in Christ,
