Talk Tuesday - WOW!!! One week later..

Natasha's journey....

Well, if I can start with one word, it would definitely be, 'Wow'. Fasting from media (internet, t.v., radio, CDs) was truly an eye opening experience for me! I did not realize how huge a part I allowed entertainment to play in my life until this moment. If I spent a few hours a day indulging in surfing the internet, looking at t.v., looking at facebook and listening to music, then how much time was I devoting to the spiritual disciplines? How much time was I setting aside daily to pray, listen, read the Bible, worship God and seek His face? My answer...not enough. During our mini-retreat I began to hear from the Lord:

"Seek the Lord while He may be found, call on Him while He is near" Isaiah 55:6

"Those who know your name will trust in You, for You, LORD have never forsaken those who seek you." Psalm 9:10

"If you seek Him, He will be found by you..." 1 Chronicles 28:9

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you." Matthew 7:7

GOD wants our hearts to seek Him wholeheartedly for everything aspect of our lives. He is GOD, He is our Creator, He is the Potter and He knows the purpose the clay was created for. Isn't life most fulfilling when we walk in His will instead of stumbling around in our own? I am humbled by such grace, mercy, love and long-suffering. GOD's love came down to me through His Son Jesus Christ. One other interesting thing; throughout the entire week, I felt His JOY.

Andrew's Journey...

My media fast was a reminder that I was spending too much time on the internet. When I realized that I was spending more time reading tech stuff and surfing the web than reading my bible, I decided to make some changes. When I was first saved I used to read my bible for hours. I am trying to get back to that.

One thing I noticed was how much you can actually hear when you are silent. You feel closer to God when there is less noise in the picture. I found myself praying and worshiping on my way to and from work. It was amazing.

What really spoke to me, close to the end of the fast, was something that I heard from my Pastor. He said, “what have you done this week that has made an impact on eternity.” I thought of all the time I wasted on media that could have been spent either seeking, praying or working for God.

Life is short. Wouldn't you want to make an impact on eternity everyday of your life?

It wasn't easy - and it didn't last! (For me anyways!)

I tried all media: tv, radio, newspaper, + internet + CDs. I lasted only a few days but did manage to stay out of facebook and linked in for the full week.
I rationalized tv - when at my mom's - and radio + CDs (listened to wdcx Christian radio + Christian music) - and internet (went only bible gateway for scripture + Joyce Meyer ministries.).

But this exercise did teach me to be more cognizant of where my time was going...I do realize that we choose whether we're in the Word - or not.

Although I was not successful, I do appreciate the challenge and did use time otherwise spent on FB, in prayer (did much more intercessory prayer than I normally do) and in reading my bible.

Hey Anonymous,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience during 'The Challenge'. Oh yeah, it hurt a lot but in the silence I, too, was able to pray more and spend more time in the Word. And yes, it also made me more aware of where my time was being spent.

Thanks!
Tash

I did not take part in the fast, probabaly because I already don't have cable TV or Internet in my house, and the music I listened to, I mostly had to, because of worship ministry at church where I needed to learn the songs ... but I have to say, the Lord also spoke Isaiah 55:6 last weekend ... Indeed we should seek the LORD **NOW** while He can be found ... and not wait until some trial or desperate situation comes upon us ... Only HE knows what tomorrow holds ... what next week holds ... what next year holds ... and it is good to be found in Him no matter what comes our way, not distracted and distant.

How good it is to know that we got the same Word.

Thank you for inspiring this fast ... and I am more motivated to hold off on getting the cable and Internet now that I am reminded first hand of the struggle it is for God's people to keep those distractions under control.

God bless you all for your example and exhortation! You have inspired me to spend more time listening for God and reading the Word. Not having a media glut doesn't always mean my time is spend fruitfully! So I am still challenged.

Keep pressing on,
Beloved

Sorry my post is late! But God is always on time :)). From my media fast, I too began to realize how much time I had been wasting surfing the internet- talking with friends from my BLACKBERRY :( and just not spending as much time with God as I should have. From the fast, I was able to receive fresh revelation from God and actually witness how much he is apart of our day (the people we come in contact with, nature and so much more) if we would only allow him. I began to express more of myself to him and could actually hear him answering. Someone just sent me a video and truly it speaks to our media fast- and stating that ultimately we need to be living for God for nothing else will satisfy! Watch it. Be blessed

Praise Report: Could you believe I've actually cut down on T.V. about 80% since the fast. I just put it on for sports or news. Hope it remains this way!

God bless,
TASH (Natasha)
